What's in a name?
Often people ask us where we get the names of leotards from. It’s a good question because it is not always an easy job finding the right name, that balance between being a catchy name and saying something about the leotard. If you take a look at our range of products you’ll see what we mean!
For one leotard though it was an easy decision - 20 years ago a little girl called Alexia Bergman came into the world of Dansez. The daughter of Samantha, our MD and Alan Bergman, the original founder of Dansez, Alexia became a big name in the dance world. At the tender age of two years she featured in the campaigns for a new leotard for young dancers, known as the AlexiaB.
Now most people had no idea that the AlexiaB was named after their daughter but 20 years on it is still one of Dansez most popular selling leotard designs for dance schools and all those young ballerinas who want to be ballet princesses, the only difference is that these days it is made using beautiful sustainable fabrics.
Sadly Alan passed away 12 years ago but Dansez has continued to grow and flourish under the fantastic vision and leadership of Sam. So has their daughter Alexia, or Lex as she likes to be known these days. A very talented cellist, who is in the final year of her degree studying at Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Although she never followed the path of a dancer like her parents, Lex is carving out her own chapter of creativity.
These days Lex still loves to wear dansez but now its more activewear than tutus and leotards… although you never know, the LexB Leo isn’t such a crazy an idea… watch this space.
